Founded in 1921 by family patriarch Nicholas Acquavella, this New York City-based, family-owned enterprise has a long and rich lineage. Originally, it specialized in Italian Renaissance work, but in the 1960s, when Nicholas’ son William joined the gallery, the focus grew to include more modern work from the 19th and 20th centuries – especially those from artists who were masters of Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Surrealism and Cubism.
A third generation – William’s children, Eleanor, Nicholas and Alexander – have since joined their father, ensuring that this iconic gallery will continue well into the 21st century.
